Tooth Extraction and What to Do After Tooth Extractionr

Diş Çekimi Görseli

Tooth extraction is the process of removing teeth that can no longer be kept in the mouth for various reasons, either surgically or through simple methods. Advanced decay, gum disease, trauma or impacted teeth are the main conditions that require tooth extraction.

Tooth extraction is performed under local anesthesia and is usually completed in a short time. However, there are some important points to consider in the post-extraction period. This process is of great importance for rapid and problem-free recovery.

✔️ Things to Consider After Tooth Extraction

  • To stop bleeding: The gauze placed after the extraction should be held in place by biting for approximately 30 minutes.
  • Avoid spitting and rinsing the mouth: Spitting, gargling or drinking through a straw within the first 24 hours can dislodge the blood clot and delay healing.
  • Stay away from hot food/beverages: Cold and soft foods should be preferred on the first day.
  • Do not smoke or consume alcohol: You should definitely avoid them, especially during the first 48 hours, because they negatively affect healing.
  • Pain control: Painkillers recommended by your dentist should be used regularly.
  • The head should be elevated when lying down: With a pillow elevating the head reduces the risk of bleeding.

Mild pain and swelling in the extraction area for a few days is normal. However, if severe pain, bad odor or prolonged bleeding occurs, a dentist should be consulted.

With proper care and attention, the post-tooth extraction process is completed in a short time and oral health is restored.
